Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: Why are we being asked to give toward new and replacement medical equipment? Dont taxes and the government pay for medical equipment? A: The government DOES NOT pay for new medical equipment. It has always been the responsibility of the community to pay for equipment. The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation fundraises for the equipment our doctors, nurses and technologists, this is why we seek your support - to help ensure quality health care remains in our community. Q: Why are we spending money on equipment when we really need physicians and medical staff? A: Having state-of-the-art medical equipment in our hospital will improve recruitment results and help keep us competitive in retaining physicians. Recruiting and retraining top health professionals at all levels is becoming an increasing challenge for all hospitals, especially in rural settings. Recruitment and retention is about offering a quality work setting and up-to-date equipment to deliver the best possible patient care. Having the best tools and newest technology allows professionals to do their very best for patience and practice their considerable skills. Q: How much am I expected to donate? A: We invite everybody to consider the health care needs of the community and give as generously as you can. Q: Why should I make a donation?

We are audited annually and must provide proof of where the funds are used. The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care provides funds to operate the hospital. Q: You want me to support that outfit that is paying the CEO that outrageous salary? A- Our CEO is being paid no more or less than comparable CEOs across the Province. Attacks on her character are outrageous in that context. The fact is she has pledged her support for the redevelopment of PECMH and any money we raise here is for equipment and capital. The Ministry of Health funds salaries.
Q: All my money is going to leak across the bridge to
A: Your money will fund the redevelopment of the PEC site and purchase equipment to ensure that the people of the County continue to have access to world class health care. We are part of a health care system and there are important pieces of equipment at other QHC sites that we have an obligation to support. The County could never afford the health services we need on our own and can only be done in co-operation with QHC. The Foundation is proud to carry our share of the load.
