Old and new friends gather, hugs and kisses all around
Camaraderie, glad handing, such a cheerful sound.
Mid August, our calendars are marked with the date,
For our annual Island Picnic, we all eagerly await!
Pat has hung Wilf's rosary in a most honourable place,
Ensuring favourable weather prevailing upon our happy space.
Jerry, Marlene and Greg each took their turn at the grill,
While hungry merrymakers eagerly awaited the usual thrill
Of seasoned sausage, back bacon, Hagerman's corn on the cob,
Yes our Sheba's Island neighbours were a hungry mob!
Joan, Dusty and Ellie, at the entrance did warmly meet
All Islanders who wandered in from the car lined street,
Carrying their goodies, chairs and coolers in full tow
Each year our crowd seems to grow, grow and grow!
Thanks for the donations to the welcoming hat,
Picton Memorial Hospital received a portion of that.
In his inimitable manner, Mayor Dusty welcomed all,
"Irish Road Bowling's the game - pylons, partners and a ball."
Bob Abbott volunteered to be the keeper of the score.
When it came to competition, the partners made quite a "Roar"!
Cars and trucks were re-routed, some even made to stop!
We were all grateful none complained that we carried a wee drop.
Salads, casseroles, platters, the buffet was as usual Great!
Each and every person amply filled their plate.
Onto rich dessertsall decadent to be sure.
Today no calories counted, the figures would be a blur!
As our evening wound down, Bill's squeeze-box sounds sublime,
Welcomed the evening's sunset, as we soon lost track of time.
A crackling bonfire in the background, threw warm, inviting sparks.
As we packed up our gear and headed home in the near dark.
Thanks again to one and all who celebrated for a wee while,
In the community of Sheba's Isle friendship is never out of style!
To each and every one of you who came or were not able
Those absent were sorely missed at our summer table.
May good health prevail, rich adventures be yours,
Until we gather again in our Sheba's Island outdoors!

This technology is extremely valuable in treating ulcers and small, flat bleeding lesions or polyps found in the gastrointestinal system during colonoscopy or gastroscopy. The development of this technology over recent years has generated excitement because of its effectiveness and safety.Although not used with every procedure, this equipment will still be a key feature and offering of the endoscopy service at QHC Prince Edward County where more than 2,000 endoscopy procedures are performed annually.

The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation was the grateful recipient of a $17,000.00 grant from the Stark Family Fund on June 30, 2010. The grant money will be used to purchase an Electrocardiograph (ECG) machine for our Hospital.
An ECG (also EKG or electrocardiograph) machine works by detecting and amplifying the tiny electrical changes on the skin that are caused when the heart muscle "depolarizes" during each heartbeat. The ECG is the most commonly performed cardiac test. This is because the ECG is a useful screening tool for a variety of cardiac abnormalities. An ECG is the best way to measure and diagnose abnormal rhythms of the heart, particularly abnormal rhythms caused by damage to the conductive tissue that carries electrical signals, or abnormal rhythms caused by electrolyte imbalances. In a heart attack (or myocardial infarction) the ECG can identify if the heart muscle has been damaged in specific areas, though not all areas of the heart are covered. Everyone who comes into the Hospital with any kind of chest pain or shortness of breath can benefit from an ECG to help in making the diagnosis of a serious cause of the symptoms.
Established in 2003 by a $1.3 million bequest entrusted to the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area by Ruth Stark of the Stark Family of Bloomfield, Ontario, this fund supports projects in Prince Edward County. Grant applications from this fund are administered by a grant selection committee, chaired by Tim and Linda Beatty from Prince Edward County. Auxiliary volunteers help when asked, and more importantly, even when theyre not. The Foundation appreciates the ongoing financial support of the Auxiliary to assist us in purchasing medical equipment and we applaud all the great work you have done in the past and continue to do.
To date, the hard work of the Auxiliary has raised over 1.7 million dollars for our Hospital. We know that no-one who volunteers does so for recognition or praise, but it is important that your contribution to our Hospital is recognized and praised.
It is a real pleasure to have Sue Law representing the Auxiliary on our board. Sue is a great asset to our Foundation and her tireless efforts both with the Auxiliary and the Foundation are genuinely valued.
The Foundation would like to thank all the Auxiliary volunteers for the work you do. Thank you for your time and your energy, your kindness and your generosity.
