Building a new hospital in The County

Early architectural rendering of new hospital

The Ontario Ministry of Health, through your tax dollars, pays for the day-to-day operation of our hospital. They do not fund the purchase of medical equipment or hospital repairs and upkeep.

The
Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF) advances the future of healthcare in our community by raising funds that help to support the hospital's infrastructure and maintenance, the purchase of high priority equipment needed for patient care, and for medical innovations that will transform how our hospital delivers care and improves the lives of all County residents and visitors.

On average, there are over 43,000 patient visits to
Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (PECMH) annually. Having a hospital in Prince Edward County is essential to the health and well-being of this community and to attracting and retaining health care providers to The County.

Donations ensure our dedicated medical team continues to have access to the tools they need to provide you and your loved ones with exceptional care in The County.

What Your Hospital Needs

Each year, a list of equipment needs is submitted for consideration based on priority and available financial resources. All equipment, purchased with generous donations, must follow an approval process. Medical equipment purchases are not government funded. Your donation helps to purchase equipment that has been prioritized as an urgent need across the Quinte region.

New Hospital

Our current hospital – which serves more than 43,000 patient visits a year is over 60 years old and nearing the end of its life. Our caregivers continue to provide exceptional care for patients and their families, but the aging facility is a challenging environment to work in.

Our new hospital will be able to accommodate the delivery of care that meets today’s standards and will meet the healthcare needs of the community for today, tomorrow and well into the future.

Clinical Transformation

In order to provide patients with efficient transitions between care settings and health care providers, and to better support patients in managing their health issues, the six hospital organizations in southeastern Ontario are working as partners to implement a Regional Health Information System (RHIS) called Lumeo. Lumeo will create one source of patient health information, and help standardize the processes hospitals use to coordinate safe, high-quality care for our patients and their families.

More information can be found by visiting
www.lumeorhis.ca.

Equipment

Quality patient care requires innovative medical equipment, but the government does not fund it. PECMHF is continually raising the funds necessary to acquire the technology and equipment needed. Your donation will be invested in that which is most urgently required to provide exceptional patient care.

Though PECMHF’s equipment list is frequently adjusted, examples of equipment the foundation may fund include diagnostic imaging machines, colonoscopes, gastroscopes, vital signs monitors, cardiac monitors, defibrillators and more.

Endowment Fund

An endowment fund is an investment fund established by a foundation that makes withdrawals from the interest earned without eroding the capital. Most endowment funds are designed to keep the principle donation intact so it can grow over time. Endowment funds help long term sustainability of the organization while helping with the purchase of equipment, provide support for programs, or operations, or purposes specified by the donor(s) or donor designate(s) to the endowment.
