“We’re not just shaping the land — we’re shaping the spaces where memories will

be made for generations to come.”

For Kurt and Heather Vanclief, owners and operators of Willowlee Sod Farms Ltd., in Ameliasburgh, caring for the land and caring for people go hand in hand. Every day, their work takes them outdoors, cultivating lush green spaces that serve as the backdrop for family picnics, weddings, recreational activities, and moments of reflection. These are the spaces where life unfolds, and wellness begins.

At Willowlee, creating healthy landscapes isn’t just about growing sod; it’s about growing community. As Heather shared, “We love creating spaces for people. We’re not just laying landscape; we are helping lay the foundation for cherished experiences.”

That same spirit of care inspired the team at Willowlee to support the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (PECMH) Foundation by investing in the Mental Health Examination Room in the new hospital. The room will bear Willowlee’s name in recognition of their generosity, and it will serve as a place of calm and care for those facing some of life’s most difficult moments.

“The space couldn’t be any more perfect,” says Heather. “We foster a foundation of wellness as part of our culture at Willowlee. Our work brings people together in peaceful, healing spaces, and we hope our gift will help promote good mental health in our community, too.”

Their gift supports a future where high-quality compassionate healthcare remains close to home.

Rooted in Community, Inspired by Care

The Vancliefs understand that health and well-being touch every family, farmer, and neighbour. On the farm, they often talk about the importance of mental health and how many people struggle quietly. Supporting the Foundation is their way of helping break that silence — ensuring compassionate care is available for all who need it.

“At Willowlee, we live by four core values: do the right thing, take initiative, support each other, and get it done.” says Kurt. “Those principles guide everything we do, from caring for the land to caring for our team and our community. It’s clear our values and PECMHF’s values align perfectly. Supporting the hospital feels like an extension of who we are, doing what’s right for the people and place we love.”
