Farewell 2021

December 15, 2021

As the final days of December fly by, it’s hard to believe 2021 is coming to a close.

While I won’t soon forget this past year, what stands out the most is the support this community gave to our hospital again this year. We are so grateful to the multitude of donors, volunteers, and community members who have tirelessly supported us in our mission to advance health care for the patients of the hospital and the people of Prince Edward County.

Your investment in our hospital ensures the future of health care delivery is bright at Quinte Health Care Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (QHC PECMH). Your generosity ensures our County hospital remains a special place in our community, and our loved ones receive exceptional care, close to home.

If you haven’t already, we hope you will consider making a donation to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF) to help fulfill our Care Champions' list of lifesaving equipment.

One of the items remaining our Holiday Wish List is a new Automated Endoscope Reprocessor (AER) at a cost of $56,039. This essential piece of equipment cleans and provides high-level disinfection to the Gastroscopes and Colonoscopes used in the Endoscopy Department at QHC PECMH.

Another item PECMHF is raising funds for is a new ultrasound machine for Diagnostic Imaging, which has a cost of $184,930. This diagnostic tool will be used on thousands of patients every year at our County hospital. Ultrasound imaging uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of the inside of your body.

If you are still looking for a truly meaningful gift for your friends, staff teams, or clients, consider a donation to the PECMHF on their behalf. This year, you can feel good knowing your gift will help our hospital's staff, physicians, and patients when they need it most.

When you support the foundation with a financial donation, you give a gift that saves lives, and improves the quality of life and health for people living in or visiting Prince Edward County. That's a gift that lasts.

While the foundation’s physical office remains closed due to the hospital’s COVID-19 visiting restrictions, donations can be dropped off at Patient Registration at the QHC PECMH Emergency entrance before the end of the year. If you would like to speak to us in person, we encourage you to call to make an appointment.

Eligible donations received before midnight on Friday, December 31 will receive a 2021 tax receipt. Any donations received will be processed in a timely manner however you may experience a delay in receiving your tax receipt.

Gratitude – it’s woven into the fabric of the work we do. Everyday Shannon, Sue and I are thankful to be able to work in the business of changing lives. Our duties aren’t always glamorous. Our to-do lists are never complete. But we get to show up and be part of something bigger than us, something that offers hope to people. We give gratitude every day for everyone who supports our hospital no matter how large or small to make a difference.

To be surrounded by generosity and optimism in our work lives is something to be cherished. How truly fortunate we are to serve others through this profession. Thank you for enriching us through our connection.

As we continue to stay vigilant in our efforts against COVID-19, we know that brighter days are ahead! Our team is working hard to stay connected with you in 2022, so please stay tuned for updates.

From all of us at the foundation, we see the incredible contributions you make all year long and want to wish you a wonderful holiday season. Whether you’re celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or another holiday, we wish you a joyous celebration and a happy New Year. May your holidays be filled with joy, laughter, and kindness.

To make a gift before the end of the calendar year, call 613-476-1008 ext. 4502 or visit us online at www.pecmhf.ca.

Rock for a Reason Raises $26,000 for Mammography Equipment at PECMH
March 20, 2026
The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (PECMH) Foundation is proud to recognize the generosity of Brandon and Hailey Pounder, co-owners of Pounder’s Pub & Patio, who hosted the first annual Pounder Polar Plunge on February 1. Held at Pounder’s Pub & Patio in Wellington, the event brought together community members, local hockey teams including the Wellington Dukes and County Royals, and spectators for a fun and meaningful day in support of local causes. Close to 40 participants took the plunge with a $20 entry fee, while attendees enjoyed a community BBQ donated by the County Royals. The event raised $1,000 for the PECMH Foundation’s Back the Build campaign and $1,000 for the Wellington Auxiliary Rescue Association (WARA), supporting both the future of healthcare in Prince Edward County and the vital work of WARA’s volunteer-run marine search and rescue team. “We are incredibly grateful to Brandon and Hailey for their creativity, community spirit, and commitment to making a difference,” said Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMH Foundation. “Events like the Pounder Polar Plunge not only raise important funds but also build momentum and awareness for local initiatives that matter deeply.” “We started the Polar Plunge to give back to the community we grew up in and bring people together,” said Brandon Pounder, co-owner of Pounder's Pub & Patio. “The support from local teams and residents was incredible, and we’re excited to grow this into an annual event and continue supporting important local causes.” Over the past six years (2020–2025), Quinte Health has recorded 315 emergency department visits related to water incidents at its four hospitals—an average of approximately 53 visits per year across the region. PECMH alone sees an average of 11 such visits annually. “Even one drowning is one too many,” said David McFaul, WARA supervisor. “Water safety is something we can’t take for granted in our region, and it takes awareness, education, and strong community organizations to keep people safe. The Wellington Auxiliary Rescue Association plays a critical role in protecting residents and visitors on our waterways through their dedicated volunteer efforts.” WARA operates as part of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, responding to emergencies across West Lake and Lake Ontario. With a highly trained, all-volunteer crew, the organization plays a critical role in ensuring safety along approximately 125 kilometres of shoreline and 2,400 square kilometres of water. Its operations rely heavily on community support and fundraising efforts. The PECMH Foundation extends its sincere thanks to Brandon and Hailey of Pounder’s Pub & Patio and everyone who participated in or supported the inaugural Pounder Polar Plunge.
