When I was 10, my family and I lived in a rented house that had a couple prolific plum trees in the backyard.

Our Teeing Up Fore Health Care Golf Classic supporters scored a hole-in-one by raising almost $40,000 for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF). Ninety-six golfers teed off to enjoy 18 holes on the picturesque and challenging course at the Picton Golf and Country Club.

The inpatient unit is operated by an interdisciplinary team consisting of various healthcare professionals, including nurses, personal support workers, unit clerks, therapy staff (occupational, physio, recreational, or speech therapists), physicians, a physician assistant, a patient flow coordinator, along with dietary and housekeeping staff.

Leading up to June 1, we are launching an online platform that will be open for two weeks before the live event. This site will offer up all the art appearing in the auction for reserve bidding, which allows people from afar to have an opportunity to participate and allows for all of you to peruse the fabulous works and consider an early bid. The platform will open on May 10 and run until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29. At that time, the site will close, and opening bids on June 1 will begin where the reserves are left off from the online platform.

On Saturday, June 1, 2024, the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF) and six local galleries are hosting a special fundraising auction of curated contemporary and historical fine art to Back the Build for our new County hospital.

Our new hospital will continue to be staffed with skilled and dedicated healthcare professionals, whom we affectionately refer to as our Care Champions. I am proud to Back the Build to help guarantee that the next generation that chooses to make The County home or comes to visit has every opportunity to work, play and be cared for in their own backyard.

Recently, in partnership with The County Guys Real Estate Group, the foundation launched a bursary for hospital employees pursuing education that will benefit health care, who are motivated to help and heal others, and who are passionate about nurturing a healthy quality of life in Prince Edward County.
