Hospital support comes racing in from The County Marathon

PICTON, May 20, 2022 - Community support is racing in from County Marathon participants.

On behalf of the County Marathon committee Mark Henry presented Briar Boyce of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation with $2,500 on Friday, May 20. The funds were donated by marathoners eager to participate again after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

“The County Marathon has existed for the past 19 years because of the community support it has needed from dedicated volunteers, businesses, such as The County's Dairy farmers, and The County itself. We are so pleased to continue to give back to the community by supporting our local hospital,” said Henry.

Over the years, the County Marathon committee has donated $15,601 and remains committed to supporting the local hospital.

“Donations like this from the County Marathon ensure we can provide the 40,000 patients seen at Quinte Health Care Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (QHC PECMH) each year with the best care possible. The participants and marathon race committee members have demonstrated their commitment to keeping our hospital well equipped for everyone who lives in or visits our community,” said Briar Boyce, senior development officer of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF).

The County Marathon Committee looks forward to hosting a race on the weekend of October 2, 2022. Above and beyond running a safe event for both runners and volunteers, the intent is to run a carbon-neutral event. The Marathon Committee is actively seeking volunteers for this year’s race. For more information and, ideally, to volunteer visit http://thecountymarathon.ca/.

The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to raising funds to advance health care for the patients of the hospital and the people of Prince Edward County.

“Last year (2023), we had the best crop yields since moving to The County in 2004. Barbara and I wanted to share our gratitude over such a great harvest and couldn’t think of a better way to do so than to donate to a cause benefitting all…building a new hospital,” said Hunter.
